A service dog must be individually trained to perform work or tasks directly related to the handler’s disability, while a therapy and emotional support/companion dogs merely provides comfort and coping assistance to an individual in some fashion.
There is no legitimate service dog certification or registration in the United States. Some programs will certify the dogs they train and test and some do not. Those certificates are the only ones that actually mean anything and they only mean anything if you have to go to court and prove your dog is trained. They are not required; they are merely useful documentation for the dog’s training.
The sooner the better, but it is never too late. Yes, old dogs can learn new tricks! All puppies should begin puppy training as soon as they arrive home. Potty training, early socialization, chew training, and basic puppy manners are a must for all pups regardless of size. Training will help you strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Your dog will be happier and less likely to develop behavioral problems
Training doesn’t take a long time each day; it is the consistency and clear communication that are the keys to success. We recommend that you make training a part of your life. Training is such a small-time investment for the huge payoff of a well-behaved dog that you will enjoy for a long time.
Yes, your dog needs training and so do you! Many times, our clients state that they have learned more than their dog has, however not everyone admits to it. Young dogs and puppies learn from their environment. It is best training them to do what is in their best interest.
As a member of the Pet Professional Guild, we use FORCE-FREE, PAIN-FREE, and FEAR-FREE training only. We will not use shock collars nor prog collars!
